The Symphony of the Harmony of Celestial Revelations 12.00 PM

from Aurora Musicalis by Sounds of Space Project

/

about

Aurora Musicalis begins at Halley Research Station at noon with a rich tapestry of ‘sounds’ including spherics, chorus and steady hiss. The occasional weak whistler is also heard, for example at minute 00:33. The title is taken from the collected musical works of Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179), one of our first recorded woman composers, who wrote in response to the majesty of the natural world and our place in it.
Her works have been a mainstay in Cunio's life as a composer, and he wondered what such a woman would have made of the experience of hearing the natural world come to life like this. Perhaps she would have labelled it as the Holy Spirit passing through our world. Written In C major the piano is optimistic in manner and hearkens slightly to the recent holy minimalist composers of Eastern Europe moving to an occasional cadence in the relative chord of a minor before resolving back to the major.
