Whistlers in the Night 12.00 AM

from Aurora Musicalis by Sounds of Space Project

/

about

The activity, which picked up at Halley in the hours before midnight, continues unabated beyond midnight and into the early hours. In this rich piece we continue to hear spherics, whistlers, chorus and variable hiss throughout. There is good example of whistler activity from minute 02:05 to 02:20. The piano responds in A minor with 2 themes, a declamatory opening in A minor centred on only the right hand, before moving to a simple ascending chordal theme that uses lots of suspended (unresolved) harmonies to mirror the tension of the sounds that is in the left hand, in the lower range of the piano.
