about

It’s early afternoon at Halley VI and the peak of the storm has passed. We now enter the early recovery phase and experience an intensification of the chorus emissions and plasmaspheric hiss, as more of the signals are once again able to travel to low altitudes.

After receiving positive feedback from the playing of young tablist Samarai Cunio in our second album we asked him to again play. Cunio starts the piece in 6 beat repeating cycle that includes linear subdivisions in the first half of the piece, moving to an improvisation on a Bengali Kaida (combination) taught to him by the master tablist Pandit Debashish Das, that subdivides to fairly ridiculous levels at the end. Storm and time have a dialogue for us all with the storm still raging at the end of the track and the mathematics of Indian Classical music, in this case Hindustani Tala, have a strong resonance with the mathematics of space sound research.

A space weather data set with an ‘invisible’ time line is seamlessly blended with images of snow strata and a stormy sky to create the artwork for this track. As a visual metaphor for the space storm dialogue that is actively taking place, it also references Antarctica in its choice of mood and colour.
